Trauma Therapy
Are You Having A Difficult Time Dealing With The Aftermath Of A Traumatic Event?
Do you experience symptoms of anxiety or depression that affect how you go about your daily routine? Have you withdrawn from social situations or isolated from friends and family? Has unresolved trauma negatively impacted your relationships by causing a loss of trust or communication barriers?
You have probably experienced flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts that don’t seem to go away. Perhaps you’ve noticed a strain on your work and family life. Or maybe your confidence and self-esteem are no longer the way they used to be and you hardly recognize the person you are today.
You may be struggling to break free from patterns of trauma that seem to repeat through generations. Since experiencing that traumatic event, your view of the world has probably drastically shifted, leaving you feeling unsafe and out of control.
Sometimes in life, scary, unpredictable things happen to people, and often, it’s too much for one person to handle. However, with our care and support at Attune Counseling Center, we can help you get back to a place where you feel more like yourself as you discover self-compassion, peace of mind, and healing.
Life Isn’t A Smooth Road—It Can Get Bumpy Along The Way
Trauma is a terribly painful experience and can affect people in many different ways. Maybe you’re experiencing the following:
- Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and despair
- Problems with emotional regulation, which lead to mood swings and emotional outbursts
- Trouble sleeping and fatigue
- Chronic pain i.e., headaches and stomach aches
- Chronic stress
You’ve probably started to avoid places or activities that remind you of the trauma so as not to relive it. On the outside, it may seem like you have everything together, but behind closed doors, you’re falling apart and have no idea how to pick up the pieces and feel like you again.
Your bad experiences do not define you—at Attune Counseling Center our compassionate therapists are here to hold your hand and guide you as you navigate this difficult time. Transformative and lasting healing is possible through trauma therapy.

Most People Will Experience Trauma At Some Point In Their Lifetime
Even though you may feel like it, you are not alone—trauma is a common human experience.
When we consider trauma, we often think of events like sexual or physical assault, natural disasters, or being involved in a serious accident. However, trauma exists on a spectrum and includes any experience that causes harm to us and our well-being.
Trauma is often categorized into “Big T” and “Little t” traumas.
“Big T” traumas refer to significant, often life-altering events, such as sexual assault, severe accidents, or combat experiences. These events typically lead to intense emotional and psychological responses.
“Little t” traumas, on the other hand, encompass smaller, everyday experiences that can still have a profound impact on someone, such as bullying, emotional neglect, or chronic stress. While they may seem less severe, “little t” traumas can accumulate and significantly affect overall well-being.
Living In A Society That Still Attaches A Stigma To Seeking Therapy
Often, society attaches dangerous stigmas to seeking therapy, leading many people to feel reluctant about properly addressing their mental health needs. Our culture, at times, promotes a “tough-it-out” mentality, which encourages people to push down their emotions and try to get busy. When people experience trauma, they may bottle up their emotions or attempt to cope on their own, fearing how others will perceive them.
The fear of judgment and stereotypes surrounding mental health can create a significant barrier to seeking help, causing anxiety about potential rejection or negative reactions from friends, family, or even colleagues.
Moreover, cultural norms and expectations can intensify these feelings, reinforcing the idea that expressing vulnerability is unacceptable. As a result, many suffer in silence, struggling to navigate their trauma without the assistance they may desperately need.
Never be ashamed of prioritizing your mental health. Trauma counseling can help you to process your experiences and provide avenues for growth and healing.
Trauma Therapy Can Help You Experience Peace Of Mind
Therapy provides a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space for you to properly process your experiences and begin the journey toward healing. It allows you to confront their emotional challenges in a supportive environment, which can feel daunting to tackle alone.
Having a trained professional by your side is essential; we know how to guide you through this process at a pace that feels comfortable for you. There is no substitute for the support of someone who understands what you’re going through and can help you navigate your feelings in a healthy way.
During sessions, we will work collaboratively to develop appropriate goals based on your unique experience and what you desire to gain from therapy. These therapy strategies can result in emotional healing and awareness, improved coping skills, enhanced control, and a heightened sense of peace and well-being.
Attune Counseling Center’s Tailored Approach To Trauma Therapy
During trauma therapy, these are the three main treatment approaches that we use with our clients:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy: EMDR helps your brain process and integrate traumatic experiences using bilateral stimulation, such as taps or guided eye movements. This approach uses both mind and body to heal, following 8 structured phases designed to address trauma effectively. EMDR is an efficient way to achieve lasting results, allowing clients to heal without reliving their trauma. It’s faster and often more effective than traditional therapy.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): This is an evidence-based treatment method that is suitable for a wide range of ages, including children, teens, and adults. It specifically addresses the emotional and cognitive effects of trauma by using psychoeducation to process past traumatic memories in a safe and structured environment, giving you tools to manage emotional and mental distress effectively.
Schema Therapy: This approach is effective for healing childhood trauma, especially when core childhood needs have not been met. It also addresses intergenerational trauma by utilizing schemas. Through assessments, clients gain a deeper understanding of the primary schemas that may be hindering their progress.
In addition to the approaches mentioned, we also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into our trauma treatment. Each method offers unique tools and techniques to help you process past traumatic experiences, develop greater self-awareness, and foster healing in a supportive, empowering environment.
With the support of a caring professional by your side, you can find your sense of peace, re engage with life, and reconnect with your purpose. It’s essential to seek help from someone who offers therapeutic strategies that resonate with your needs, goals, and personal values. You deserve the support to navigate through past trauma and move forward with self-compassion and understanding.
Perhaps You’re Considering Trauma Therapy But Still Have Questions…
I’m concerned about confidentiality and keeping my personal information private, especially from my partner, spouse, or parents.
At Attune Counseling Center, we prioritize fostering a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship, allowing you to feel secure in sharing your thoughts and feelings. You can rest assured that everything you say during sessions will remain confidential.
I’m worried that talking about my issues in therapy will make things worse.
It’s completely normal to feel anxious about discussing painful experiences. In therapy, we’ll work together as a team, moving at a right pace for you. Taking small steps to face the issues you’re carrying can lead to significant peace and comfort over time.
I’m concerned about the cost of therapy.
While therapy is a financial investment, it’s also an investment in yourself and your future. The skills and insights you gain can provide lasting benefits that extend beyond our sessions. My goal is to help you feel more empowered and better equipped to handle life’s emotional challenges.
